OMG - TA- DA! and reward

Is it time to post the OMG finished ? Already the end of May ? It was a beautiful month, weather wise and sewing wise. Very enjoyable.

Stuck in March by the mitred corners blocks, (not to mention the snow and ice, remember that?)

I managed to plow through the intimidating (to me)  blocks These blocks are the 12th of March to the 17th. As said before, the last one (bottom right) got a HSTs treatment instead of the mitred corners. :^P

Then came the 18, 19 and 20, which were easier.

and now the rest of the month; TA-DA!!

from the 21st to the 31st of March! Yes, March is done, done, done. Goal accomplished! YAY !!

And I managed to do some borders too. They are the first and second of April blocks. I know, I didn't sew them like the original quilt.
I like the symmetry of the flying geese facing each other and the slanted diamonds sitting across each other. Well, that's my story.

I am very happy with my progress on this one and would like to keep on while the going is easy. But today is such a glorious day that I think I will abandon the sewing machine and just reward myself with some slow stitching, outside, with some iced tea!  Mmmm ... sounds delicious.

I got my hand on some greens

....  it's not money, but it is almost as good. It's my green fabrics.

I knew I had some somewhere but I couldn't get my hands on it. For some reason, it has been stored away with this quilt.

A blue and green Jacob's Ladder done in 2013. It is just a top.  Done for my 6 feet tall son who doesn't really like it. So it got folded and put away.

I will presume that I'd put the green fabrics with it because ... I wanted to do a border? Oh poor memory of mine, it is not always reliable. Anywho! Now that I have more greens, I did a few more tulips for my MIL table runner.

My friend, Pink, pointed out that tulips usually have two leaves growing next to the flower, like enveloping it. So I tried to flip the leaves around to "envelop" my tulip and ... well what do you think? Please let me know. I appreciate your input.

Linking up with Angela at so scrappy for RSC for more greens ... (still no cash), but lots of beautiful projects to see.

Until next time ...

Messy Sewing Sessions

For someone who said she won't start a new project ... I sure am in trouble! On the other hand, they are very beautiful troubles. :^D

The mitred corners blocks for the 365 Challenge were really a challenge for me. I made it my OMG (One Monthly Goal) challenge to kick my butt into action help me along.

To alleviate the tension in the sewing room, these string blocks started to appear. (as per last week.)

Last month, the RSC's colour was orange and some string blocks turned out orange.

And then, this happened!  (For those who followed by blog for a long time, I did do a few string blocks about two years ago as testers. They have joined the newest ones.)

Well, there's no point in stopping now, right?  :^D  This week, the string blocks turned green,

and that is how a string quilt was started in my sewing room without my consent. (hehehe.)

Somehow, the army of strings on the sewing table managed to construct the 365 Challenge blocks.

Okay, so the last one (bottom right) is not a mitred corner block like on the pattern. It is a HSTs block because I just couldn't rise in the morning knowing I had to face another mitred corner block. (Sorry but I was beyond my limit.) Especially that the block in question had 8 (yes eight! like a spider!) mitred corners.

Those blocks really hindered my opinion of my sewing talent! So I had to pieced some more just to easy my mind.

Aaaahh! I feel better. Which brings me to the block of March 21st.
(Yes, I am exactly TWO months behind!)

And look which block Kathryn chose for that day.   YIKES!!

I mean just LOOK at it!

Isn't that eeEEeeEerie?   }^8>

Would you really call that fortuitousness? !

For those of you who don't understand why this is so hair raising for me, let me explain.

Julie from Julie K Quilts called a kind-of-sew-along with log cabin blocks, appropriately called "Log Cabin Lunacy". You pick your colours, layout, and size, and make your blocks when you can,  as long as it's log cabin blocks, it's good. The linky party to show our progress is once a month, on the day of the full moon. (You know, luna=moon. Just love this.)

Well, today is the FULL MOON day! (paste sound of a terrified woman screaming here!)

How did Julie knew? OOoooohhh! CreeEEeepy! (So happy we're not in October!!)

Anywho!! I will make a log cabin today. Or two, because this little wee one will not go into my log cabin quilt.
But the next ones will ! They will also be bigger. HA!

These are the fabrics I pulled out so far for the Log Cabin quilt, all from my stash. I'll have to find more light coloured fabrics  ...  and maybe one other colour?  Haven't done a B/W quilt yet.

And I picked the layout too ... but you'll have to wait until the next full moon to see it.
MHOOAAHH! AAHH! AH!       <8^{

Westering Women Progress

With all the posts about the Ottawa Quilt Show, I didn't take the time to show you what I did. (Well, it's not much but I'll show you anyway. )

Westering Women block of March was the Sweet Gum Leaf block.  Inset seams again! (I had enough with the 365 Challenge.) But this block asks for bigger pieces, maybe it will be easier to assemble. :^)

I tried a few colour combination.

With a name like "Trail's End" this background fabric had to be included in the Westering Women quilt., right?

The stem is way too big but I am not starting over. As you can tell by the picture, my leaf is not laying flat. I tried, and tried, and tried, and gave up. This is how it will stay. Not matter the size of the pieces, inset seams and I don't play nice together. Period!  I hope to be able to quilt it into a more obedient shape. lol.

For April, the  block is called The Lone Elm.

... which I am still working on it. :^D

I also worked on the 365 Challenge March's blocks. Yes March's blocks! Got four (wonky) mitred corners blocks done and...

March 17th is all cut up and on the ready ... but I am not ready! I need a break from these mitred corners.

So I'll finish the Lone Elm and make some more tulip blocks.

Oh! Didn't I tell you about the tulips?
Oh! I didn't!
Well,  it's a ... uh-hum ... new project  ...
A commission! It's a commission for my Mother-in-law.   :^D

She asked me to do something to cover the RV's table. Can I say no? Of course not!! She said she is no hurry and to surprise her. Well, she loves playing in her flowerbeds and she is proud of her flowers, so I thought some tulips would be nice. (Actually, I really don't know WHAT I am doing.) Stay tuned!

Today, I am joining Love, Laugh, Quilt for Making Monday.

Until next time ...

Sew Full of Love (Part IV) and Show Stopper!

Last session of photos from the Ottawa Quilt Show. The medium and small quilts with the miniature ones too.
Enjoy! :^D

Pink's hand to show how small the pieces are. Amazing!

I couldn't find where the block started or what kind of block it was. Still intrigued.

This one measures only 12.5 X 20.5 and yet it has so much details. Loved it.

Loved this one too as it is one of Sue Garman's design.

I was very attracted by this one and examined it for a long time. Beautiful!

Each (Pickle Dish?) block was quilted with a different design. Very well done.

And now ....

Are you ready for the show stopper?

Sublime!

Imposing!

Phenomenal!

AAWWWEEEESOOOMMME!

Yes it is all hand appliqué and hand quilted! There was always a crowd in front of this one.  It was so remarkably well made in every way.  Pink and I were both floored ... and we were not alone lol.

Oh! and I did encouraged the vendors ... a little bit. I was a very good girl.

4 half meters from Sew Inspired.

3 Fat Quarters from Mad About Patchwork.
(the first polka-dot fabric is actually beautiful baby pink.)

And a little too much from Heartworks. What a lovely little booth this one was. (I can't flip this picture right side up. There's always one to aggravate me!   D^:  ) This store is not that far from my home and ... oh boy, am I in the hot soup now!! LOL.

Anyway, I now realized that I didn't take one picture of the vendors. NOT ONE!!!  Well, I was a newbie at this so I guess it is to be expected that I forget something lol.

I hope you enjoyed my sample of the Ottawa Quilt Show as much as we had. I hope it was not too long. So many more quilts I didn't take in pictures but I had to limit myself ... just a touch. :^D  I can't wait for the next one. Quilt shows are as addictive as quilting lol.

Until next time ...
